Hello, I am still a bit amped up and writing this quickly sorry for typos or grammar mistakes.
I work as an assistant at an investment firm. At the beginning of 2022 our company announced that they would be paying a $10 bonus to each account that we got fully enrolled in paperless statements. We kind of forgot about the bonus as there weren't many wanting paperless as the majority of our customer base are older. However, at the beginning of 2023 they announced that any account not enrolled in paperless by the end of June would be charged a yearly $25 fee. This announcement was sent out to all of our customers which brought upon a large surge of people wanting to sign up.
I am the youngest by about 30 – 40 years so I was tasked with heading that push and setting up and fielding all the questions related to it. Has been a super busy past couple of months. I remembered the bonus announced a while back and checked to see if it was still active. It turns out it was! I then checked our list for accounts that qualified for the bonus, and we had 539 accounts qualify. Meaning that the company has allotted a bonus of $5,390. I was super excited I had no problem splitting this as some people would take the initiative of sending out forms and answer the occasional phone call.
I then ask my manager about the bonus as the funds have just been sitting there and it was specified that the manager has full say to how the funds get disbursed. His response was “I don't believe in paying out bonuses to average work that you were asked to do. I feel that bonuses are deserved when the work is exemplarily, and this was average work done”.
I'm just so pissed because I know he makes a ton of money for what he does and saying on to this money doesn't affect him at all. However, I think it is selfish that you have other employees that don't make as much money as he does and could really use it!
TLDR: Company paid us incentive money and manager has to disburse it how he sees fit. He said we didn't earn it.
Thank you for coming to my rant and have a nice day…
