Manager has been assigning extra shifts without alerting employees of them

I (23F) have been working at a local casino for the last 10 months and 95% of the time it’s actually a pleasant place to work, however recently (the last month or so) the GM has been assigning extra shifts to someone’s week without asking if they are available to work said shift, or giving them the reason they were scheduled for the shift. Not telling us if someone had PTO for the day and needed an extra hand to cover for them, or if it’s a high volume day and they need all hands on deck.

Consequently last week they added a suggestion board and I suggested the bare minimum and asked them to at least ask us if we were available to work an extra shift that week before they made the schedule. They responded by stating, quote: “Everyone was informed before they were hired that they would need to work some overtime should the business require it. If you have conflicts with working the extra shifts, ask a coworker if they are able to switch or cover for you on that day.”

What would you do in my situation? Obviously they aren’t up for talking about it and this week alone this problem cause a ton of scheduling conflicts and hiccups.
