Manager Needs Opinions

So I am on the verge of hiring a new employee and about to enter the interview process and I was hoping to get some help from folks of this subreddit. The role is salaried (70K) although they are only responsible for 36 hours of work per week (9 hrs Mon – Thurs). The position is as a product auditor where they will look at hundreds of food items a day and conduct various testing on them. The role offers very little in the way of variety and recognition. My desired qualities and why (and how would you ask these questions or are these desired qualities unreasonable)? Promptness, I personally equate people who are late to not caring about a position.

  • Promptness, I personally equate people who are late to not caring about a position. I know that is a shallow view but if the start time of the position is 8 am my expectation is that you to have arrived to work and began settling in by 8 am or slightly before. Seeing the employee come in later than the start time (8:03 and on) would be difficult for me as it is a fundamental part of where I think accountability and success stem from. My ideal candidate would be extremely prompt/punctual/early.

  • Accountability, The testing of product can be repetitive and offers very little feedback though the tasks/testing need to be conducted unflinchingly rigid and the results cannot come into question. If they do the employee will be terminated. 90% of the job is conducting these audits/testing with extreme accountability. My ideal candidate would understand the severity of the importance of the task but understand they may not always get feedback or see the efforts of their work.

  • Improvement, while the tasks of the job are repetitive I am looking for someone who both challenges and accepts the status quo. If something could be done to make a process improvement I want to know but this often crosses into doing tasks outside of your job assignment/description, at the same time there are aspects of the work that cannot be altered and the ability to accept that is also key. My ideal candidate would desire to grow out of their position after 2 years and affect change in a greater way in the company.

Appreciate any assistance antiwork can offer – I agree work sucks, attempting to make it a bit better now that I have a small amount of power. (Original job was going to be posted at 50K I changed that to 70K, they wanted to do hourly work at 36 hours/wk I changed that to salary w/ benefits, they wanted a Bachelor's Degree requirement, I changed it to experience and degree preferred but not required. I am trying)
