It bothers me a lot that because I'm in a “management” role, i cant join a union with my coworkers, even though I make less money than they do. I think this is a purposeful tactic by many retailers where they inflate the job with several supervisor/management roles to give employees less opportunity to unionize.
For instance, at the retail store I work at, there are 6 manager or supervisor positions and 6 base level employees. 5 of the management positions make less money than the salespeople do, and 3 of those have very similar jobs to the base employees.
At my previous job, there were 7 supervisors and 5 or 6 base level employees.
It seems like a lot of retailers give you one extra responsibility and slap “supervisor” on a nametag somewhere just so you cant join a union with your coworkers. Has anyone else experienced this?
