Manager wants praise for the overtime he gives himself

One of the managers at my job is rather widely disliked by the entire team. Truthfully he’s an asshole micromanager, and hides in his office except to come out and tell someone else they aren’t doing their job. My team is rightfully fed up, and he took it upon himself to “address” our concerns in possibly the most unprofessional email I’ve ever received. I won’t share the full content, but here is a snippet below. “If this (hiding in his office) has come to frustrate you or seems as if I am not “doing my job,” please come to me directly with that concern instead of sharing it with fellow employees or leaders. Background conversation is not something I tolerate at all and will hold you accountable if I hear it. I work myself to death to show up powerfully for this team often to little recognition as I go…
