Off my chest…
I (28F) have B.Sc but the jobs aren't paying shit so I'm working at a warehouse for now. Most of the people I work with didn't go to college, have kids to support, etc. I see people struggling everyday, and the work we do is very physically demanding.
I made friends with this woman in her early 20's. We'll call her Beth. Beth has several kids and no education past high school. She was raised by 2 abusive POS parents, but she does her best to provide for her kids and to be a good mother. She comes up to me one day visibly concerned, and our conversation goes as follows:
Beth: Sally (supervisor) just called me to her office before I could finish my last order.
Me: What'd she say???
Beth: She told me to 'be careful who I hang out with because I'm a good worker, and she doesn't want to see me get into trouble.'
Me: What? Did she say who she was referring to?
Beth: No, I asked her what she meant, and she just said again, 'be careful who you hang out with.'
This has irked me to no end because Beth was shook. She has to be a great worker because she relies on her labor to feed her kids. Sally KNOWS this, and says some manipulative shit to further control this poor young woman who's already had to overcome so much.
The turnover rate is so high I guess they have to rely on controlling a few to make it look like they're doing OK at their jobs.
