I have observed that many employers are capitalizing on the current dismal job market to give ultimatums to employees to return to office or quit. Since the news is full of layoffs and people are scared of losing their jobs, employers figured this is the best time to force them back to office. This includes many employers who had earlier claimed to allow permanent WFH.
