I work 8.5 hour days without a lunch, because I am not paid well enough to take a lunch. It’s not that bad and my job is fairly easy, so eating at your desk is just kind of the culture. Here When I come in about 15 minutes early every day, and work through lunch, I get about 4 hours of overtime a week. This supplements my income enough that I’m happy to stay at the job despite the fact my boss is a prick who doesn’t enforce any rules and makes arbitrary decisions that contradict what he’s wanted in the past. My commute is an hour, but honestly, I’m okay with it. Because my job is easy. The hardest thing to deal with is the boredom.
Well my boss called me in yesterday to tell me that business is “down” (it’s been the same for 3 months) and they need to start cutting back on costs. He told me since I don’t take a lunch, he wants me to leave a half hour earlier every day. I was furious but I told him okay. He punctuated this by saying “oh but if there’s stuff to do you can stay”
I have an interview tomorrow already. I have over ten applications, all who pay a third more than what I make now for similar work. I’m not even going to give notice (at will state) when I find a new job. I am going to tell him at 4:30, today was my last day. See you in hell. I know my worth.
