I started a new job in July. I was clear when I first started that my dad is terminally ill and had a short time left.
He lives 300 miles away. I've taken a few days as holiday so that I can regularly visit him. Last week, his condition changed potentially for the worst. So I drop everything and go straight there, thar means I need to call out from work for a couple of days. I don't worry about it too much, I figure they'll understand.
I get a text today asking me to confirm ill be back at work tomorrow and all week as normal. I tell him that's a negative, it's pretty uncertain and I don't want to commit to coming 300 miles home and going to work.
He sends me a message saying that they've tried to be understanding but they cant authorise my absence. I should call them when im able to work and we can discuss.
So I've written my notice effective immediately. Because fuck him.
