This is mainly a vent post, but if anyone has any advice for the quitting over text part that would be appreciated as well!
I've been working at my job as an assistant for a director in a small business for a little under 3 months; I was “trained” for 2 full months before realizing that I wasn't actually trained on how to do my job. My boss has 2 young kids and usually only works 3 days a week because her kids are always sick — meaning that she leaves work early (or doesn't come in at all) for me to pick up her slack. At first, I didn't think much of this, but I noticed that after a couple weeks of this she started scheduling ALL of her meetings back-to-back at the end of the days she usually doesn't work. She'll have 4+ meetings scheduled after 2pm and miraculously at 1:50 everyday her kids will be “sick” and she needs to leave, meaning that I have to attend all of these meetings in her stead while also doing my own job.
Around this same time, I found out she was talking shit about me with people that directly report to me. I discovered that she has serious grievances about the way I do my job AND she's uncomfortable with the fact that I'm a lesbian; she had one of my employees ask me if I was abused as a child and that's why I'm gay now …
Last week, her son got sick again and she decided to drop the fact that she's going to be off for the next 2 weeks because she “forgot about spring break”. I'd already been figuring out how to get out for awhile already, but I've decided that tomorrow will be my last day. I don't see any reason to provide a notice to someone who has never respected me in the first place, and I'm basically doing as much work as I can for the next couple days until I leave. I feel slightly guilty about leaving while she's still on vacation, but considering as I didn't even know she would be on vacation anyway, I don't think that my guilt is 100% valid.
