My job has a doctors note saying I’m under medical care for a condition that can be worsened in heat so I need accommodations for it. Today, the day of the trip, it was supposed to be 95 and we have an air quality warning so I requested a day prior that I drive to my field trip thinking there would be no issue. My boss said “you don’t need to drive you’ll be fine it’s only 10 minutes away”. On field trips the bus does not have ac and they have to open the windows which doesn’t help if you’re in traffic. My boss allowed me to drive to a previous trip that was 40 minutes away. Yesterday I looked up how far the drive was and it was 20 minutes so she lied about that. I ended up emailing her last night requesting that I drive again due to the conditions and she emailed me today telling me to not come in at all. I feel like this was a form of retaliation rather than an accommodation. She wanted me on the bus to have extra staff and then decided I can’t come on the trip at all on the last day of the program. Should I still be paid? I’m not sure how ADA things work, my job just requested a doctors note in the beginning of the summer and said they would accommodate me, I never filled out any official paperwork.
