My boss said the quiet part out loud

I work as an automation engineer for a small company. My boss recently asked the development team to come up with a monetization strategy – i.e. figure out how to make money off our software. Aside from the fact this is technically his job, he also told us he would be thrilled if we could find a way to “automate away” our full-time customer service positions. So, find a way to make my coworkers redundant. He was almost gleeful mentioning the salary expenses he could save by doing that. Wtf? Since then productivity in the group has dropped and he's asking why. I honestly don't understand how someone can be that ignorant of the effect that would have on a small team, who all know each other quite personally. This is coming from a dude who crows on the daily about “teamwork” and prides himself on fostering a “familial” environment.…
