This is a rant!! If it’s not the right place for this story, please let me know and thanks in advance for reading my rant, ahaha
My boss has this habit (habitual!) of texting me to come in early and giving me very little warning, sometimes 10mins before he wants me to start. I also have an end time, but I came to quickly realize that an end time (to him) is a concept that he has yet to master. 99% of the time, I can’t leave at the scheduled end time because they are between an hour to two hours late.
But, as a tale as old as time, I wanted the money and had to fight to get those hours, so I just put up with it.
Anyways, they just redid the schedule because of summer and they cut my hours from 20-23hr a week down to 12, after he promised he wouldn’t cut my hours. I knew my hours would be cut, but I thought it would be more like 15hrs, not 12 (which is means I lost between 8-11hrs).
But, I also knew that he wouldn’t stick to the schedule, he never does.
I knew he would call me in on my days off, because with the change in schedule I now only work 2 days instead of 4, and he is very dependent on me. The new schedule wasn’t even two days old before he just disregarded it. As predicted, I ended up coming in on my new days off, plus coming in early and working longer on the day I was scheduled.
But yesterday took the cake for me. I was suppose to work 6hrs (as per the new schedule) and ended up being there for 11hrs straight, no breaks, and having my whole morning and evening taken as I was there from 10am-9pm. I left and was like, yeah, I’m done. You want to cut my hours and change my schedule, then let’s do it.
Today is my day off. I’m very happy because after the 11hrs yesterday and having a young son, I’m tired.
But I knew what was coming, because it always happens and I was ready.
9:30am, just sat down after dropping son off at camp, drinking my coffee, chilling, I get the text. He told, not asked!, me to come in at 10am…on my day off. Uh, no!
For the first time, I said no. I told him I can’t, but that he should call the girl, who is scheduled today, to come in early. He just texts back thanks.
And from now on, if it is my day off it will always be no. No reason, no excuse. Just no.
I guess it’s a little bit of malicious compliance, because for me I’m just following what the schedule says.
Maybe he will learn to not constantly fuck over the person who has gone above and beyond for them, who runs the store so they can have a life, who has never called in sick, who picks up the slack and all the balls that they constantly and consistently drop.
I was very annoyed with my hours being cut, but I accepted it and now they need to accept that I’m not a servant who is at their beck and call.
