i work at a small factory in the midwest. they make around 6 million a year so it’s not insanely big but they’re definitely making ends meet. They’re starting wage is 11 an hour but with prior work experience i was hired in making more than this. a lot of employees complain because most of them are making around the 12-13 dollar mark. my boss was talking to me about how it’s hard to find good employees like me and i told her it was probably because nobody wants to hire in at 11 an hour. she told me that 11 an hour is good money and people need to be more grateful. i asked her if she truly believes people aren’t under paid and she said that “people just don’t work like they used to”. keep in mind that every person who works here struggles with money and all of the higher ups are not blind to this. they have separate bathrooms that are cleaner, they get brownies/donuts/cookies, etc. that the factory workers don’t get to have. there’s a definite hierarchy here and she doesn’t seem to realize that. the only reason why i still work here is because it’s extremely hard to find another job where i live right now. i just wanted to share this evidence that the rich get richer and the poor get poorer. there is definitely a unfair advantage for the rich in this country.
