I work as a dog trainer, I work both at a facility and independently. A bit of background; I’ve been in this for nearly a decade at this point, I’ve successfully trained and placed four service dogs in the last few years, I also help people who already own the dog train it for service work. I do a multitude of other training as well such as behavior modification, sports foundations, basic and advanced obedience, etc.
My coworker at the facility recently got a new certification and believes she’s god’s gift to dog training. She’s currently taking on any client she can get her sticky nasty little hands on, including service dog clients.
Here’s where the problem comes in; if you don’t know exactly how to train a seizure, cardiac, diabetic, migraine, etc alert, someone is fucking DEAD. And she doesn’t understand that. She doesn’t CARE. The boss also doesn’t CARE.
I’ve begun ignoring the “non-compete” and stealing every single service dog client straight out from under her. Because she’s going to result in serious injury or fucking DEATH. She’s training odor off of clothing!! The dog could be freaking alerting to the detergent brand for all you know????
Anyway, I’m absolutely furious that no one really seems to give a shit because these clients are disabled and apparently everyone at that facility is violently ableist smh.
TLDR: Coworker is taking on clients she shouldn’t be and it could result in serious injury or death.
