My coworker was given the responsibilities of a higher management position, but denied the jobtitle and compensation boost because “they wanted to see how she’d do in the position first.”

One of our property managers quit. They didn’t have the time (or the budget?) to hire & train someone new before she left. So they brought over an assistant property manager (APM) from another property to be “trained” before the PM’s final day. Then the APM they brought to the main office took over all of the previous PM’s portfolio and responsibilties. She has been managing her properties alone with no help/support from upper management for about 2 months now. So last week I found out they had not given her the title change or pay raise to compensate for her new role & responsibilities. She said they told her “We are going to place you in the role and see if you’re a good fit before we give you the pay raise and title. You’ve never been a PM before so it doesn’t make sense to give you a raise until we know you can do the job well.”

I was like… That’s not how this fucking shit works??? I encouraged her to demand the title/raise or threaten to walk. We’ve already had one of our other PMs quit (we originally had 4 PMs for each propety portfolio and we have over 900 properties for rent). They can’t afford to lose her.

So she did and came out with the title and raise. Which I’m so happy for her. But so disgusted at the situation.

And on top of all that, I discovered our HR manager who quit and had her last day Friday was actually not our HR manager. She was the business manager, but they had her in the position of HR doing those job duties for the last 6 months to “see if she’d be a good fit for the role” and “they can’t justify a pay raise and title because she’s not HR certified.”

So she started taking classes to get HR certified but they kept piling on more job responsibilities so she finally quit before she ever finished getting certified.

So it turns out there’s actually NO HR department or employees now.

This is such a sinking ship but I quite literally can’t afford to quit. So I’m applying like crazy while also navigating the cluster fuck of my current job.

Oh! And our ONE SINGULAR remaining leasing agent (the others quit), was originally promised a PM position. Now they are telling her “we’ll give you the PM title but we can’t give you a pay raise with it.” She is actively looking for other jobs.

I feel like I’m taking crazy pills you guys. Every company I’ve worked for is full of this shit.
