The time I was written up Over a meme I retweeted on Twitter

So when I was 19 I had a job I hated. Like most 19 year olds. My manager was like a 60 year old Regina George. She was just mean and did underhanded mean things to all the girls just for her own amusement. She would call you ugly, stupid, she would berate you in front of customers , ect. Basically anything a bad manager did, she did it. I saw a funny meme on Twitter, I remember the meme vividly. It was a golden retriever puppy sitting in the driver seat of a car with its head on the wheel and had text that say “when you show up to work and sit in the driveway for 5 minutes Cus you don’t wanna go in” Anyway. I retweeted it and thought nothing if it cus it was a harmless funny tweet about the woes of work we all face.…

It was a golden retriever puppy sitting in the driver seat of a car with its head on the wheel and had text that say “when you show up to work and sit in the driveway for 5 minutes Cus you don’t wanna go in”

Anyway. I retweeted it and thought nothing if it cus it was a harmless funny tweet about the woes of work we all face.

3 days later I’m called into the office by my manager and she had a screenshot of my Twitter with said meme PRINTED OUT.

She sat me down and said “explain this” and I laughed and said “it’s a meme of a puppy who doesn’t wanna work. It’s cute”
And she went serious and said “talking negatively about the company online is against company policy and you’ve violated it”

I laughed , thinking she was joking , until she slid another paper across to me with a write up stating I broke the social media policy by showing the company in a negative light on my personal accounts (which my Twitter had no mention of where I worked anywhere)

I initially didn’t sign it because I thought it was ridiculous , but she threatened to fire me if I didn’t.

So yeah. That’s the story of how I was written up over a puppy meme on Twitter.
