Antiwork

My dad (61 years old) got a carpet cleaner for his 20th year anniversary (at a certain delivery company)…

Lol, I genuinely thought he was gonna get a cruise or something! They didn’t even throw him a pizza party! He worked for a very small business in the hair/beauty industry when he was younger, and he told me that his boss would give him fully paid vacation trips all the time! To Cancun, Big Bear, etc. like..actually pay for the entire travel costs, hotel AND time. How can such a giant mega company not afford to treat their employees well like that, especially for something like 20 yr anniversary ? His coworkers were shocked to hear that he’s been working there for so long! The company goes through employees quite quickly due to a pretty low pay for the physically demanding work that’s required. He’s worked extremely hard for this company, and has absolutely destroyed himself physically…i see him deal with excruciating joint pains everyday..yet he still gets up…

He’s worked extremely hard for this company, and has absolutely destroyed himself physically…i see him deal with excruciating joint pains everyday..yet he still gets up and does his job with 200% effort and a smile on his face each day, while basically crippled. /s ..kinda. And to be quite honest, probably does it better and more efficiently than even the 20 yr olds there He doesn’t ever give himself enough credit, but he’s always taken his job very seriously and is an extreme perfectionist with everything he does. He even has a perfect driving record!

He has just gotten so little in return, hasn’t even received a significant raise in many, many years..their raise after 2 years of COVID was something like 3 cents per dollar. ..then a few months later got taken away with a time cut. (2 hrs less everyday, but are expected to do the same EXACT work, in the same time frame.) He’s been so stressed lately having to run around like a chicken to make it on time, he says it’s pretty much impossible.

These are some of our most essential workers, yet they got basically nothing for all their hard work..

Interesting Side note- I recently made him check his phone to see how many steps he does, and guess how many? From 8am-5:30pm, mon-Fri, he does an average of 25,000 steps. That’s just under 12 miles. My poor 60 yr old father is walking 12 miles every single day. Idk why but this made me teary eyed. I don’t even do half of that LOL. And guess what!! It hasent even changed much since his 2 hour cut!! He’s walking damn near the same amount somehow. ?!? He tells me he spends most of the day literally running. Dear lord what is this company doing to him!

Am I right to feel sad about this?? Or am I just being dramatic ? Did he not at least deserve a pizza party? The managers get pizza parties all the time, apparently. pffft…

I can’t wait until he gets to retire. But 4 more years sounds so insane to me, with his current physical condition. He’s very strong, but obviously in pain. He refuses to even take Tylenol very often. And I’m just very sad OKAY 🥺
