My employer will not accept doctors’ notes for anything and will fire people for missing due to medical reasons. Is this allowed?

My employer has a strict attendance policy and if you miss a certain number of times for ANY reason whatsoever, you will be terminated. It has happened 10+ Times just in the few years I've been here. People bring in notes signed by a doctor saying they were in the hospital, too sick to work etc. And it never excuses the absence no matter how serious it is. Or if someone has covid, even in the hospital on a respirator for it they can be fired for not coming in. All of these have actually happened,…

All of these have actually happened, is this allowed? I'm scared I could get injured at any moment and lose my job. They say they don't HAVE to accept even a valid doctors note to excuse anything and can fire for it.

In Illinois for what it's worth. Never worked anywhere else like this
