Sharing this hoping this will inspire someone to do the same. If your boss tries to break any laws like witholding pay, threatening retaliation if they talk about pay or trying to unionize, or anything like that, try to get a paper trail, get their threats in writing, and report it to the NLRB. They were dumb enough to tell him over email to stop unionizing or they would fire him. They fired him a week later. His case was so cut and dry the NLRB gave him a lawyer to fight his case for him. He got a huge settlement in less than a year, and they had to post a notice in the break room informing everyone of their right to unionize.
I see a lot of posts here of people not knowing what to do if their employer tried to screw them. If you can’t afford a lawyer, it’s free to report to the NLRB. Not all cases are cut and dry, but at worst, it will put the government’s eyes on them, which no business wants. If they get more than one complaint, it could lead to something bigger. Don’t hand wave it like it won’t matter. It will. Familiarize yourself with your rights and what is illegal for them to do. If your job lets you talk to coworkers on the job at all, you’re allowed to talk about starting a union.
