I've been with my company for 6-7 months now, and we just had a semi-annual review, and I earned an “exceeds expectations”. My manager assured me that I should be super proud because they don't give “exceeds” often, and she appreciates my hard work. Then she tells me what my raise will be (4%), but since I've only been here for half the year, the raise is prorated to the length I've been working here so now it'll be slashed to half ~2%).
I'm not sure if other companies do this. I've never worked for a company who does it this way, but I'm pissed. I took a 20% pay cut to come to this job, and with inflation, I feel like I've taken huge steps back financially. My last job was taking a toll on my mental health, and it wasn't worth it anymore. And while this job is so much more lax, and I can pay my bills with the money I make, I didn't make a ton of money in the first place, and I definitely feel the difference.
I'm just pissed, and I want to vent.
