My job is giving me meal rewards instead of hourly.

“So, my job is paying me 95% of my check based on the regular hourly rate. The remaining 5% is being compensated by providing me with meal rewards equivalent to my hourly rate. For example, if I work a total of 80 hours, my paycheck will reflect payment for 76 hours of work and 4 meal rewards. Each reward is calculated based on my hourly rate, which balances out my check. However, this arrangement seems somewhat questionable. Could it be related to taxes? Are they attempting to claim it as a tax write-off? Other coworkers have experienced the same situation. We are not aware of any actual payment for our meals or reimbursements for expenses. It's worth noting that it's a public adjusting firm that felt kind of shady from the beginning.
