My job let me go and wants me to train my replacement.

I am in a complicated situation with my job. I have been employed for a year and a half and left for maternity leave. Before leave my job was a mix of remote and in office work, I worked fully remote the last month before having my baby. During leave I moved further away and prior to my return I informed my supervisor by email that due to the distance and my baby not being able to be vaccinated for Covid for 6 months I would need to work remotely for the indeterminate future. This arrangement has continued since then – they expressed that they would prefer me to come into the office and since I cannot they might look for a replacement and they would like me to train them. I expressed at that time that I would like to be able to apply for unemployment and also receive a severance so that I am protected.

I was informed yesterday that they have found a replacement with a start date of the end of the month – and they would like me to stay on for the next two months to train them. I would also be able to look for a job and interview during this time. My job is at will, I forfeit all accrued PTO/sick days.

I feel that yesterday was my date of separation and I can turn this down, walk away, and file for unemployment. It's an unusual situation, they repeatedly commend my performance and are replacing me only because I cannot be in office. I don't know how I can train a replacement in good faith knowing that I basically have to work, train and job search for the next two months. It feels impossible and like I am losing out. I feel I should ask for an exit package before I agree to stay on, work, and train someone.

I am looking for advice/opinions on how best to handle this. Thank you!

Tl/dr: Let go from job, asked to work for two months and train replacement while being given flexibility to job search during that time. No mention of severance/exit package. What do I do?!
