I won't keep this Up for too long because I dont want people to look into this and this job isnt meant to be broascasted across social media. Basically, I'm “canvassing,” our supervisor drives us to an area with tenants on the voter registration list and we record data like who will they vote for state senate. There are homes with signs that say NO TRESPASSING and NO SOLICITING/POLITICS, even one sign stating the owner is armed. I asked two different supervisors what to record these houses as, since there are various options depending on if people answer the door or not and what they say. They've placed extreme importance on accurately labeling the situation, and I care about the election so i want to properly perform my job. Both have said to pretend i didnt see the sign and knock or ring the doorbell anyways. I'll be truthful, I have an anxiety disorder and this makes me extremely nervous, and I'm usually pretty flexible.
I told my folks about the job, and they seem concerned, because they say it's a crime to ignore a sign like that, and our bosses should not be telling us to not heed the warnings. This is a well paying gig, limited time, but I want to know if im being dramatic or not, and figured this was the right sub since people here have experience with bad bosses. In this job, people are rude to you just for bothering them with questions. A woman today I canvassed at the end of her drive because she was about to leave in her car, she was rude but I've prepared myself for that but also specifically she sassed me saying theres no way in hell i was going to her door, because her sign up there says no soliciting. Folks are gonna be rude and that's not the jobs fault, but i feel like telling employees to not heed no soliciting and no trespassing signs is opening them up to more hostility.. they tell us hostility is rare and what to do when it happens, but i feel like people would be safer if they weren't required to break the law. Boss also said we aren't soliciting but im pretty sure that's what this is…
