My job was promised to be remote, now they want me in the office 5 hours away from home

Throwaway just in case. Last year I took a remote (IT) job from a company that’s located 5 hours away from me. I would never have taken this job if they told me then what they tell me now. A few months ago they told me they wanted me in the office for one day in the week. Already this was against what we discussed, but one day didn’t hurt me so I didn’t make a fuss. I was pretty annoyed however that the office would be mostly empty and the work I did in the office could be done at home. Now they suddenly decided it would be two days in the office.

This time I decided to say something about it though. I said this wasn’t what we discussed and I politely refused. They reacted poorly on many professional levels to this, with raised voices and slammed fists on tables. I’d like to note to this that management (who lives around the office) won’t be at the office because they “don’t like it”. (A direct quote)

Now they say they lost trust in me and threatened to force me to come to the office for the full 5 days. I have pets to take care of at home and this forces me to wake up at 4 in the morning and come back home at 10. All I’d be able to do at home is sleep and leave again if this were the case. I told them this but they just said “that’s not our problem. We pay you to work, so work”, as if I won’t work at home or something. Where I’m from the law states they can’t do this as we are supposed to both agree to office terms, but I just know the second I mention this law they’ll just try to get rid of me.

I’m devastated because I was passionate and enthusiastic about this job, now I can’t even look at my laptop without getting a stomachache.
