My last corporate desk job: $10 and a bait and switch.

I was working as a hotel desk clerk / night auditor/ security guard for minimum wage at a privately owned hotel from a chain of franchises (rhymes with “wind ham”). I processed thousands of dollars a day in cash transactions and two to three times that in credit card charges—without one error during my year and a half at the job. During my first December holiday season at the company, all the employees received a letter from the out-of-state owner, thanking us for our work and giving us all a year end bonus … a ten-dollar bill. There was also a holiday dinner planned for the employees and we were asked to choose between chicken or mahi-mahi. Days before the dinner, and after the employees sent in their choices, we were informed that mahi-mahi was no longer an option. I do not miss that job.
