So I've been in this organisation for the last 8 months and never had any complaint. Things were pretty chill. Workload was high but never felt it mentally as my team and my manager were very supportive and friendly.
But I feel I have faced mild favouritism. A lady who was working in our team for the last 2years has finally resigned and my manager was dependant on her a lot. She was a good performer ngl. She also trained me occasionally with projects and my manager would always praise her and subtly compare how her slides were more presentable than mine (yeah ofcourse she has been doing this everyday for the last 2yrs???)
Anyway so recently i found him to be unnecessarily strict. I received an assignment for a training session on a Thursday afternoon and the deadline was Friday EOD while I was already grinding at workload and I said to him that I will not be able to send it. His response, “monday morning is fine but it should be the first thing on my inbox”. From a general POV, this doesn't look bad but he never talked in that tone implying that I have to work through the weekends as well and he doesn't give a shit.
I've worked weekends before without a complaint because our client manager was a bitch and he sat with me throughout the time to support me and help me out. So yeah, this time was different. For more closure, he would randomly talk to me about his favourite food, his wife and family and what I like to eat so that he can consider it in the next team lunch, etc. For the whole 8 months, I never felt he was my boss but a co-worker. The last time when I fell sick, he offered me that he can send me home made food that his wife cooks.
I work on hybrid mode and go to office on Thursdays and Fridays only. Recently, I have taken over a project on which the woman who resigned was working and the work was totally new to me. He asked me to come to office on Monday to discuss about the concepts more closely and so I did. He comes to office and says hi to everybody and goes to everyone's desk to talk, help, etc. And after only the first half he texts me on teams regarding update and even though I am only sitting literally 3 footsteps away from him.
And as I mentioned, the work was pretty new to me and i was struggling so much and was so anxious because the deliverable was on the same day that i couldn't even have my lunch.
At around 6pm, I told him I wanted to go home and continue since I was feeling very unwell. He wouldn't let me. And then at around 8pm again, I insisted because i live pretty far and he finally did let me leave. I was also feeling as though i would faint. I told him twice that didn't eat all day and all he would ask me was about the update on the report. It felt so weird coming from him, i couldn't believe that he changed so much so instantly and he was also spending most of the time with other team members while I was struggling at work. I came home and truly fell sick. I got a fever too and showed him a picture of my thermometer as well. Told him i couldn't pull myself tonight anymore. He said he can extend the deliverable till next day 1pm but i couldn't take it anymore. I took a leave the next day and updated my CV. No idea wtf happened to the project tho. Somewhere I am also scared of escalations and getting fired but i just can't take this bs at the moment.
Is it me or is he being real weird?
