So I just started part time work at a café. I had a morning shift scheduled from 8am, was supposed to be my second day. But in the early morning my mum had a heart attack, and I had to call an ambulance and rush her to the hospital. I messaged the manager explaining the situation and how I’ll have to stay off work on that day. She became passive aggressive and said ‘but in the store there is only one person. You can go in after an hour.’ BRO I JUST TOLD YOU MY MUM HAD A HEART ATTACK???? AND she’s IN CRITICAL CONDITION I’m NOT GOING TO LEAVE HER ALONE. so I had to explain that, and I said I must prioritise her, and that I’m sorry for the stress caused. She responds with ‘I dont know what to say but I trust you for work and that girl is alone’. So hold on a second.
If I was calling off sick would you have said the same shit. You’re supposed to arrange a cover or come in yourself no? I thought shed be understanding as this was an emergency situation and I was obviously terrified.
So I got pissed off and I responded with ‘what? I just told you my mum might be dying? I am not leaving her alone. Situation is out of my control I didnt do this on purpose’
