My manager let me know that upper management views the small group im part of as ineffective and “too chatty”. I’m convinced that it’s because of one member of the group and I’m mad

I work for a tech company as a technician. My job largely consists of doing a lot of testing and rework for electronic assemblies and it’s not a bad job. Recently we just had a big reorganization of our workspace and there was basically nobody managing the move. Us technicians aren’t able to deal with all of the aspects of planning the move, primarily because we’re busy, and there’s like 6 conflicting management groups putting their opinions into the mix and nobody sets expectations for what they want. Recently I got news that the upper management structure perceives us techs as inefficient and “too chatty” and a lot of it has to do with how this move went. Recently I got news that the upper management structure perceives us techs as inefficient and “too chatty” and a lot of it has to do with how this move went.

The inefficient thing is frustrating as shit because when it comes to the people keeping the workspace actually functioning, me and another technician are responsible for all of it despite it not being part of our job roles. There’s also more techs but somehow the two of us got pigeon holed into it. I’d argue I am responsible for a solid 60-80% of the grunt work of the workspace these days because when tasks are delegated to our group regarding this workspace, nobody does shit. The one other tech is helpful but pretty slow to get the ball rolling so I just steam roll the work out. In the other helpful technicians defense, his work is top tier and is regularly above expectations. He is a truly good coworker, just takes his time chewing on things so I can’t fault him too much.

The chatty thing infuriates me. We have a tech who is older and fucking nuts. He always is complaining about everything and leaning on decades of experience for leverage in discussions while simultaneously being the least efficient one of us by miles. He does absolutely nothing to help with the workspace maintenance. I’m mad because if he’s the reason upper management perceives all of us as “chatty” and inefficient, then his actions are fucking all of us. I’m honestly at the end of my rope. The hard thing is this job gives me tons of freedom and pays decently. Not really any other jobs in my area pay as well and I’m not sure where I would move to. It has me frustrated and a little depressed. I’m not sure where I stand with the company, how I’m perceived and what I should do.
