So, I want to share a story about my first-ever job. I'm a 21-year-old woman, and I landed this job about six months ago. It took a while because of COVID, depression, anxiety, and the big one—autism. Eventually, I got hired as an arcade worker at a local bowling alley. My main responsibility is running the escape rooms, but I also handle various other tasks.
Initially, everything went smoothly. I even got accommodations after providing my manager with a doctor's note. The note explained that I can't stand for long periods due to intense heel pain. So, I was given a stool to use when managing the prize room.
However, about a month ago, my manager abruptly told me to stop using the stool. Apparently, it was too bothersome to explain to higher-ups. I felt hurt but tried to accept it. Unfortunately, doing my job without accommodations proved challenging. I approached the assistant manager, who promised to talk to my manager, but nothing changed. When I requested written documentation, my manager refused, saying he didn't have to document every decision.
Frustrated, I escalated the issue to the general manager, hoping to get my stool back. Today, my manager dismissively informed me that despite their discussion, nothing would change. It left me feeling lost.
On the bright side, I've found a new job that accommodates my needs and still involves what I love (plus better pay). The only catch is the wonky hours—it's an on-call position based on reservations. Anyway, that's my story. Feel free to ask any questions!
