I don't know if this is the right subreddit to put this, but I'm trying anyway. I was supposed to start working a new job as a ride operator at a theme park last month. Just before I was supposed to start, the theme park changed which ride I was going to be operating, to a ride that required the ride operator to be in a very narrow position on the ride vehicle for an extended period of time (20 minutes or more). I am claustrophobic and raised this concern on my first day of general training.
I was told that I needed to get a work accommodation form from my doctor before I could accept any shifts, even shifts that were related to the general training I had received and not ride operation shifts. It took me a week to get a note from my doctor, and to fill out the accommodation request. I've been told that the note from my doctor was not detailed enough and it was rejected. My employer wants my doctor to fill out some specific forms. My doctor's office normally refuses to fill out such forms, because they are fully digital and don't handle physical paperwork (I am upset about this too). I am stuck in a back and forth with no end in sight.
I want to make it clear, I can work on any other ride in this entire theme park without encountering an issue with my claustrophobia. I have told my employer as such. They just keep saying it's policy and insisting (without me asking) that I'm not being discriminated against. I don't know what to do, or if there is anything I can do. I just want to start working, I need this job. Finding a new one will take too long.
