'Hello, My new job is overwhelming and I don't know how to quit.
What do I tell them? Info: female, 22y/o
Hello there, I've been working for three days at a family-owned mini-mall and it's overwhelming. I manage the cash register and count thousands of dollars by hand, mop the floors, wipe the counter, check the remaining oil at the gas station, do administrative work for the other shops, manage the inventory of the car parts shop, etc.
The family has two(white+black) dogs running around the shop sometimes. The white dog appears to have a broken leg and is in the office more often. When I'm sweeping, I find dog poop and pee. My co-worker sweeps it up into a dustpan and mops the floor. I clean the poop and pee when I see it too. Next week It will be my turn to mop.
At the gas station, they have gas attendants so people can pay directly with their card/ cash without stepping out of their vehicle. The cash that comes from the gas station has to be counted by me and given to the boss. The boss said jokingly once that he'd have me work in the shop and the gas station.
He doesn't want to keep hiring new gas attendants because they quit a lot.
My problem is that I can't keep up. My shift is from 15:00 to 22:00. I barely get things done and sometimes write down wrong numbers. I leave at around 22.30 or 22.15 if I'm lucky. I don't have a break but I can eat when itś not busy in the shop.
The toilet is a mess.
My boss is the type who wants to lean back, leave the responsibilities to someone else, and watch the money come in. He has a giant TV in his office watching and listening to everything we do and say. I want to keep the job till the end of the month because I need my salary in hand before I quit.
I started working on oct 17, 2023 btw
