I’m a minor and was working in fast food. This was my second job, one that paid more than my first, which was what caught my eye. Immediately starting I knew tips weren’t actively accepted, which I was fine with, but we still often received tips from generous customers. Well this tips thing which had become my normal in the last few months blew up in my face today. To preface, the whole store was out of whack as members from our sister location were there and other members were away. Anyway, as I went to ask my manager to distribute tips as always and a not-so-nice assistant manager from the sister location decided she would put her foot down about our tips. She told me she would still give me my tip today, but today would be the last of it. So I took my tip and I left the store, ready to quit anyway because it was just a god awful day full of rude staff and I’m not interested in crying after every shift. Well I’m in my ride, having my breakdown over my shitty day and the owner of the store sends out a message to all stores about tips, how they’re unacceptable and all that. Then I receive a private message to me about how I’m a thief and how the police will be contacted if I don’t immediately return my tip to the store. Apparently the manager that delivered my tip to me was the sister of the owner, and gave him my name (and maybe even told him I stole the money?). After I told him I quit and was that I was documenting the conversation he deleted me off the crew app and called up my mother, to whom he said basically the same thing, while throwing a couple insults onto her. My parents filed a police report for the harassment. I have yet to calm down from my panic and anxiety. I can’t understand why people could be so cruel over something so small. I wish school taught you more about how to handle a situation like this. I can’t believe that I can do calculus but can’t even begin to wrap my head around what happened to me today.
