We work retail and a lot of our job is sitting behind a desk doing little tasks or fixing up the store until a costumer comes up to the register. This girl is thin, white, and adorns herself in really eye-catching clothes and accessories. She gets a lot of attention and sure loves it. But, with it is a lot of drama and a lot of work gets put me on.
We are assigned different tasks to do in-between helping people. She takes a long time to do her work because she is either looking out the window, talking to me about her problems, or she is in the bathroom fixing her clothes or whatever.
Our opening tasks include fixing up the store or completing a checklist of opening duties. I have to ask her every week to please take turns doing certain tasks otherwise I end up doing most of the work. It doesn't really matter anyway because no matter what she is doing, she spends the majority of our pre-open time in the bathroom so she doesn't have enough time to finish the tasks and not actually get any real work done. So, the next opener has to do more.
She also plays this princess part where she just doesn't do any of the heavy lifting of putting merchandise away or any work where she isn't at the front desk at the center of attention even though, we are all supposed to share certain tasks during the workday. So, we all do more work.
What really annoys me is that when I have no task, i'm supposed to do the register so she can focus on the stuff she needs to get done. BUT, if a boy our age comes up, she will stop her task to help him even when she knows i'm right there. She doesn't do it with any other customers. It's always men. If I happen to be there to help a guy at the register and were chatting, she diverts the attention to herself with a big laugh or something to include herself. It drives me crazy. Especially when I want to flirt here and there, she always inserts herself despite having a partner.
It's wild because every little thing is a crisis to her, but she can't just focus on doing her job. So, then I have to comfort her or do some labor of telling her its ok. I am so sick of it. I can't believe she can be this unaware and I think her princess act is a game. Idk what to do about it because everyone else seems to either put up with it or they are under her spell. Any advice?
