I was informed two weeks ago that I had 8 hours of PTO that would disappear as it doesn't roll over at the end of September. (My hire date was the end of September in 2020, and that's when it resets for the fiscal year? Not super clear on it.) I filled out a request form for Monday the 18th and it was signed off on and approved. I have been looking forward to it all week, I would be able to put some hours into Starfield (I'm usually too tired at the end of my work day to enjoy it.) My boss who was on vacation all week rolls into our office at 1:30 PM and out of nowhere tells me: “I will need you to be here Monday. Something came up that I can't discuss right now, but I will give you more insight next week.” After expressing my anger and disappointment to her and acquiescing to keep my job I agreed to it, on the condition that I get the 29th off, no exceptions. I'm beyond livid and disappointed in myself for not being more assertive and pushing back on it more. Any enjoyment I got from this job and been sucked dry by the toothy blowjob of COVID and toxic, out of touch upper management. Cheer me up, guys. I really need it right now.
