Need Help! Daycare in MD is requiring employees decorate a Halloween table at own expense?

This was told to me by my niece and need some idea on its accuracy. Daycare in Maryland says it’s mandatory that each “Teacher” decorates a table, at their own expense, for a Halloween trick or treat for the clients families. The employees are being paid for the duration of the event (which is after hours) but the cost of the table are not covered by the Daycare. Niece questioned this and the lady who runs the daycare mentioned that if “this” continues to be an issue she may have to let her go. I’ve already got bad vibes from the place but it’s a block from our house and my niece doesn’t have a drivers license (longer story). According to my niece 5 ppl have left in the last two weeks while she’s been employed there for three. Apparently, they won’t be paid overtime (not sure how that’s legal)…
