Hi all, long time lurker, but I was finally offered a job that has *some* semblance of being non-shitty lol…Anyways, what I need help with is probably on some questions to bring up on this call for today. I'll give some context:
- will be fist job I've had in a while, went through quite a mental burnout, health concerns, new diagnosis, etc etc we all have it I'm not special xD
- description made job sound like a mostly in office entry level position that mostly did like, data entry and retrieval
- is a government position actually, and it seems to be for Social Work. I have no issues with this type of work at ALL, obviously I'm biased because I probably benefit from this department lol buut –
- autism/adhd diagnosis, where before this I could do a whole lot because my masking was off the charts great, now I get shaky and my nerves/anxiety go through the roof for me just to get out of my car to say, go get some milk and eggs at gas station, or I start sweating profusely (like in the interview for this, which I'm surprised to be getting a call back)
- the position itself is a first person, point of contact “front-man” for all purposes of helping the most needy in my city. was told I'd mostly be dealing with the houseless population in general, which I also have no qualms with lol, I'm really close to joining them, but the fact that I'll have to put on this act and mask as a JOB for the foreseeable future really concerns me about my potential future health. I recognize now that all my previous jobs ended because I went through this autistic burnout phase from bottling up and masking for years, and I don't want that to happen again :/
- the big kicker: the position pays only $30k/year as the salary. there's government benefits ofc, but they're not insanely great like you'd expect, just your usual insurances, and their version of a 401k. pension's there if I stay till I die haha
- the other big kicker: it's going to be an hour commute at the LEAST, probably closer to 2.5 hours total commute EACH day due to traffic. I've done the same commute before at my previous job, and it was a factor that lead to my burnout for sure
- had to move back in with family, this is the first real job offer in idk, a year? it's tough, the home environment isn't great I'll admit, sort of dealing with everything on my own including having to give credence to my own mental health concerns and disabilities. so on the one hand, I would like to move out soon lol, but like, $30k/year will have me living in a box or living in the red on my bank statements.
Here are some things I've written down to ask, but honestly after typing this all up I don't know how to even call them back to ask them these questions, because I'm pretty sure I know the answers to them all and not one will be a solution or address my concerns.
- do you guys reimburse for gas mileage commute?
- do you offer relocation?
- what ratio of my day and week would you expect me to be in the office vs out interfacing with individuals
- what can I expect in terms of mileage reimbursement rate either through the state of through federal
- what sort of advancement pathway can I expect for motivated individuals such as myself
- can I get more information via email on the specifics for
- Sick Leave
- Vacation
- Holiday Pay
