Need Time Off

I have been at my job for over 21 years. I work for a non-profit that always has a need for extra money for building repairs etc. I have always been an employee who goes above and beyond and love the people in my office. I deal with families that have burned me out. I see a lot of child abuse and neglect, go into filthy homes, work with drug addicts….my job is to help the parents get their lives together so they don’t lose their kids to foster care. My son is also having some mental health problems and has been in and out of psych units the last year. That and the stress of my job have made me have several break downs at my at my office. I have been told by my boss I need to take time off and get myself some rest and counseling.…

I have been told by my boss I need to take time off and get myself some rest and counseling. They want me to take Paid Family Leave which will pay me only 67% of my income. By doing this, they won’t have to pay me my salary out of the program’s budget and they can reroute my pay to another budget line to use as they like. I get 6 weeks of vacation a year, 12 days of sick and 3 days of personal time. Should I tell them I’m not going to take the PFL and suffer financially just to take time off? I think I should be able to receive my full pay. Am I wrong?
