I wasn’t sure where else to ask this, so I hope this is a good place!
Long story short: I left my other job 2021 Oct because it went to shit and they switched back to In Office and there’s so much more lol.
I got this new job and everything was GREAT except they were only offering 10 Days off, 3 Emergency, 5 Sick. During the interview process I asked them if I could have those 5 Sick as PTO instead because I was coming from a place that I’d have 23 days off the following year and that if I was sick, which I rarely get, I could still work from home as we are remote. This was denied.
I was able to squeeze by last year but this year is trouble. I have several weddings, two bachelor parties, a Euro trip we are trying to plan, and possibly Japan in November (it’s been on hold due to covid since I booked in 2019!)
Essentially Japan would cover all 10 Days so that leaves me with only 3 Emergency days and 5 sick. I didn’t want to come to this but I’ll probably have to call out “sick” a couple times because they do not offer good time off. I hate lying but I feel as I have no choice.
Competition has much more time or a lot of place are doing unlimited time off. I am casually looking for another job right now, but I would shut that down if I could have at least 5 more days off. They offer 5 more days AFTER 5 years. I am an avid traveler and it doesn’t fit my life style.
My question is if it is possible to somehow ask for more time off? I feel as if I did it would seem as a threat like “if I don’t get more time I’ll look for a new job”.
Has anyone been in a situation like this before? Any insight would be great!
Also I’m aware that there are place with MUCH WORSE time off.
Thanks!!
