Antiwork

Never more content in life than when I don’t have a job.

Left college, 6 months unemployed… bliss. Job for 6 months… Unemployed for 2 years. Then worked at a supermarket for 4 years only part time. Then I joined the Army and spent 6 years there. Covid was bliss again, managed to get about 3/4 months off before being dragged back in. Yet there was lads there who volunteered for work because they couldn’t stand being at home doing nothing. I left the Army half a year ago. I had about 3 months of just being at home and not having to do a single thing. I rediscovered my love for gaming. I was going to the gym, because I wanted to and wasn’t being forced to. The weeks felt like they were going by at a normal rate, didn’t feel fast or slow. I felt happy for the first time in years. Now I’m in my second job since leaving…

Left college, 6 months unemployed… bliss.
Job for 6 months…
Unemployed for 2 years.
Now I’m in my second job since leaving and working more hours than I ever have.
Having that realisation that I still have 30+ years to push before I even get close to the current retirement age.
This isn’t a life, working nonstop for the sake of a handful of weeks off each year.
But what’s the alternative?
