Never tell employers your plans

I work remotely doing customer/tech support, I asked my company if it was possible to work part time because I'm looking into doing a language course for the country I'm in right now, this is a necessary course but it's not something I need to do urgently. They tell me that it's not possible to work part time in this role and I tell them that's fine, I will stay on full time until further notice. A few days later I am informed that due to a 'restructuring' I am being let go from the company, I see that they have put out a job advertisement for my role on the same day I asked about part time work. This is a company I have worked for for 3+ years on 2 different projects, I've never had a written warning or anything like like, just a couple of minor clashes…

This is a company I have worked for for 3+ years on 2 different projects, I've never had a written warning or anything like like, just a couple of minor clashes with toxic team leads.
To be honest I'm a little relieved to be getting out of this company because my gut tells me that it's going to be better for me in the long run. They are a family owned business and team leads get away with whatever they want because they are related to the owners.

I just feel so stupid for even telling them anything, I thought after 3 years there would be some loyalty and understanding but no, they screwed me over first chance they got.

Better to tell your company the bare minimum and be safe as I've learned (the hard way).
