Our companies General Manager(owner of the company) has just resigned out of the blue and my previous boss has taken the position of GM.
Our company is in a very very very bad financial position and the second wave of redundancy happened this week. When i started at the company we had around 30 staff members now we have 16. Im the IT manager and honestly don't know how i survived as we are a construction company. I was originally full time and studying part time at university, and thought i would be the first to go.
In march i was forced to either work 3 days a week or resign, with the job being so flexible, a one minute drive to work and a good relationship with the now GM i just took it.
Yesterday management has brought in a external business development manager to help the company try recover, one staff member overheard a conversation which was pretty much him saying that staff are going to have to work overtime(unpaid) and compete against one another in a ranking system, his word for word example was…
“If this person stays back 2 hours all staff should see it and also stay back longer”
Im honestly shitty that my hours were cut back in the start and probably should of took the opportunity to look for another job, the past 2 months i have only been doing my hours and nothing more, my time is too valuable and the last thing i want to do is stay back any longer than i need too. I
What do i do if the company enforces this 'system', the job is perfect whilst im studying but im not willing to give my time for free just to be ranked against full time employee's.
