Just recently graduated from university and I’m in the process of job searching. I haven’t received any job offers yet but I’ve been getting anxious about what to do when the time comes for a background check. I have my experiences listed on my resume as work experience but there is only one I was officially paid for. Other than that, I’ve done two unpaid internships for non-profits abroad and before that, I “worked” for my dad as he’s self-employed and makes documentaries. I mean I did work for my dad, but I was never officially his employee or anything.
Would I still list everything when the time comes for a background check? I’m worried because my two internships were abroad and although I could reach out to my former supervisors and ask them to be references, they have foreign numbers so we only communicated via whatsapp. Then as for working for my dad, I can’t put my own dad down as a reference either so I really don’t know how I would be able to prove any of this. It’s frustrating because my unpaid experiences, as opposed to my paid one, were the ones that I really learned from and can vouch for in interviews.
Will I never get hired? HELP I’m just hoping to get some reassurance & advice here
