The 27th Amendment keeps Congress from being paid. No matter what, Congress will be paid, even if there is a government shutdown.
With that in mind, maybe we should have legislation forced through that would fine members of Congress for spending more than the amount of money they would get from Food Stamps be the day with it doubling each day that they break the law. They are not allowed to use credit cards nor allowed to have others pay anything towards their bills. Something like “You are given $5.25 a day for food, housing, etc while government is shut down. If you spend more than that per day, the first day fine is $1000. The second time you spend more than that, the fine is doubled to $2000. A third time would be $4000, and on and on.”
We all know that this type of law would not pass but it would get the message across to the idiots that are demanding a shutdown.
