In the process of filing a charge against my former employer for wrongful termination. I worked at this company for 2+ years and was a top performer in my department.
I was laid off coincidentally after I participated in collective bargaining and helped a coworker draft up a raise request letter.
When I asked why I was laid off, they vaguely phrased it as “the position no longer exists.”
The position did in fact continue to exist.
3 months after my layoff, the employees were required to sign a “Relationship Disclosure Form”, and were told that they were not permitted to discuss wages with other employees.
Additional Brief Key Points:
-
We were frequently verbally told that we were not permitted to discuss our wages with fellow employees.
-
4 months before the layoff: I was given a $3.00 for performance and was praised for my contribution to the department.
-
4 months before the layoff: My manager told me that the owner has fired people for asking for group raises.
