Many of you often say time off requests should not be requests, but instead notifications. So I put a “notification” that I’m taking off the week of Christmas as well as December 30 and 31. I didn’t hear back so I spoke with my manager about and he didn’t say I can’t have that time off but also didn’t say when or if he’ll approve it. It’s still “pending” in our system and I also noticed it says it’s awaiting approval by both my manager and his manager.
I’m not going away for Christmas but I’m thinking about saying I have non refundable travel reservations that cannot be changed. Calling out sick isn’t an option because my company policy says HR requires a doctor’s note to be faxed to them for callouts before or after a holiday, but I might have to call out “sick” if I request a different week off and I still can’t get it approved.
For the first time ever, I will have to work next weekend. It’s unknown at this point if I’ll have to work all day both days. I have an appointment next Monday morning and I plan to stay late on Friday but I’m trying to find a way out of going in on next Saturday and potentially Sunday. Something that could cause me to call out if it was a regular work day. I live over 25 miles away and the potentially of me going in to work 12 straight days is filling me with dread. I would have said no if I lived further away or already had something planned.
