No Right to Disconnect When You Work in Social Media

I work a Mon-Fri 9-5 doing social media for a fairly large company, however there are only 3 of us doing this job. Like most companies, our social media isn't monitored over the weekend. Of course I take every precaution during the week to make sure scheduled content goes up properly over the weekend, but if something happens — not my problem. I'm not working. My hours are 9-5, that's a Monday problem. Unfortunately shit happens with the internet sometimes, glitches can occur. However, my employer is NOOOOT happy with this mentality. I should be checking in every weekend. Which, fair enough, I'm happy to take a peek throughout the weekend. But I am not working. What if I'm out and about? What if I'm travelling? My hours are 9-5, that's a Monday problem. Unfortunately shit happens with the internet sometimes, glitches can occur.

However, my employer is NOOOOT happy with this mentality. I should be checking in every weekend. Which, fair enough, I'm happy to take a peek throughout the weekend. But I am not working. What if I'm out and about? What if I'm travelling? This has already happened — I haven't checked in because I had a jam packed weekend travelling, a post went out all glitchy, and I got the “this is your job, you need to pay more attention and do better” spiel. I should've pulled up my work laptop, hopped online, and fixed it, regardless of where I am, obviously. At a theme park? Better have packed your laptop. Maybe the beach? It's not like water damages laptops right, bring it along. Sand can't hurt either.

This is driving me absolutely crazy. At this point I'm afraid to be away from my phone and laptop at all because “what if I get a message to check something out?” or “what if I miss something and I get in trouble?” I used to love my job, but at this point I don't even know how much longer I can stay. Every time something goes wrong it feels like my bosses are going “do you know how stupid you are? this is your job.”

Is there even anything I can do about this besides sacrifice my personal life or quit?
