No such thing as a free lunch (anymore)

So this quote is now a reality at my workplace, in which district management chooses from dozens of employees breaking their ass to become employee of the month. I happened to be chosen and I was elated as the last time I won I was awarded a free lunch, just like everyone else has in the past, within limits of course. I’ve been struggling lately with food and surviving in general due to mediocre pay so I was really looking forward to coming in today and being able to have a lunch for the first time in two weeks. The hard, long hours were finally gonna pay off for me here. Hard stop there, though, as when I made my request I was informed they don’t do this anymore to cutting costs.
