Background: I work for a large organization and had been a supervisor for a short time in another division before taking a demotion to work remote (pay was similar with OT availability).
I've been enjoying my new remote position and I saw an email saying they had a Temporary Promotion position to supervisor in my remote division. I figured I'd give it a go to see how I would like it. I was offered the temporary position.
I reached out to my new manager before my detail started and asked what kind of training would be available for supervisors and asked if I would get trained in the workload I would be supervising. She called me on Teams and basically laughed at my questions saying I would be receiving no training. I told her that I had no experience with this workload and it would be difficult to review subordinates' work not knowing the correct way of doing things. I was basically told “well, that's the job.”
I'm now in the middle of this detail and hating every second of it. I have no idea how to do the basics of the job and when I ask my manager for clarity she gives half answers that make it more confusing. I'm expected to sign off employees as ready to work when I, myself have no clue what I'm doing. I'm counting the days until this detail is over. Unfortunately it goes until the end of the year. The good news is that it is temporary and I know not to go for supervisor in the future. But damn, the next couple months are going to kill me.
