The norwegian retailer behind the grocery stores “KIWI” are doing a huge campaign trying to refurbish their reputation. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZN-Cnn0vrAU&ab_channel=KIWIMinipris It's been a comon saying that “if you dont do your homework you are going to end up behind the register at KIWI” for many years. its generally been considdered a low tier job across the board. Now they are making a stand, which in a way is good, because their employees deserve some respect and recognittion for the job they are doing. it is hard work after all. the problem here is that the pay is shit. It's been a comon saying that “if you dont do your homework you are going to end up behind the register at KIWI” for many years. its generally been considdered a low tier job across the board.

Now they are making a stand, which in a way is good, because their employees deserve some respect and recognittion for the job they are doing. it is hard work after all.

the problem here is that the pay is shit. They want people to think that this is a golden opportunity to build a career but all positions within the store is low wage and your boss is likely a moron. We have a decent system for education and getting a batchelors degree is fairly easy. The problem for KIWI is that noone with a batchelors is going to be working there long time so they have to “snatch” people before they start higher education. Something this campaign is working towards and i find highly unethical.

MC Donalds on the other hand also did a natioonal campaign were they said “we take in young people and learn them the basics in the workplace. Feel free to steal them, they are great” trying to boost the value of having MC Donalds written on the CV as a way to attract young hires.

All in all, KIWI seems to be the first one out of the gate doing something radical to get people working for them instead of paying a living wage. if they catch em at the right age they are hooked…
